Year 10 Photography

Photograph an Event/ Photo Shoot

Part of being a freelance photographer is photographing events such as weddings, family gatherings, sporting events and concerts or organizing a photo shoot with a focus on fashion, family portraits, product advertising etc. As part of this unit of work you are required to photograph an event or organize a photo shoot before the end of the term.

Freelance photographers will take hundreds of photographs during one event or photo shoot so that they have plenty to edit after. Remember that you job here is to satisfy the client, so think about what type of photos they want, gather examples in your VAPD and plan a time to take the photos.
You need to upload 8-10 of the best photos from the shoot to your blogs.

Instagram project: RED

A students upload for RED

Instagram project: GREEN

We are working on a collaborative photography project using Instagram. Using the details provided in class, everyone will upload at least ONE photograph that they have taken each week. At the end of the project the photos will be printed and installed as a class project. I will give you a colour each week as a theme, you can interpret it however you like.

The first colour up is GREEN. Make sure you put your first name in the comment so I know whose is whose. Here is my first photo. Have Fun!

Term 4: Set up a blog!
This term is all about setting yourself up as a professional freelance photographer. You need to think about what type of photographer you would like to be. It could be combination of a few!

  • Event (weddings, christenings, parties etc)
  • Art (portraiture, abstract, nature etc)
  • Photojournalist (document events for magazines etc)
  • Fashion
  • Landscape
  • Wildlife
  • Aerial
  • Action/Sports
  • Pet
  • Real Estate/ Architecture
  • Concert Photographer
  • Macro
  • Food
  • Travel
  • Street
  • Advertising

Next you need to set up a blog for yourself as a photographer. You can do this in Blogger here. If you already have a Gmail or Youtube account you don't need to set up a new account. Take a look at some other professional photographers digital portfolios here and then start making your own showing your best work. Your blog will include:

  • examples of your best photographs. They should be dated and titled.
  • a video interview where you explain your style of photography and explain some of your best photos
  • Some basic information about yourself. Don't give away too much information. Just an email for contact.
Fantasy without Photoshop

Students had the task of creating a fantasy photograph without the use of Photoshop- some great results!

  1. Hi Mrs Dunn, Your Year 10 Photography students certainly had fun! I especially like the portrait series, the fantasy without Photo shop activities and the enormous range of stimulus material connected with "set up a blog" I think I could spend some time looking at 99 remarkable portfolios.
